McLeish reveals what he's 'hearing' from his Rangers sources about training under Van Bronckhorst

Alex McLeish has tipped Giovanni van Bronckhorst to instill some much-needed confidence back into the Rangers squad after taking training this week.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers boss revealed the feedback he’d heard from Auchenhowie had been “really impressive”.

Van Bronckhorst took his first training session on Tuesday (23rd November) after watching Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Hibernian from the stands.

McLeish, who is still in close contact with people at Ibrox after his days in the dugout, admitted the players may be feeling a bit down following the League Cup loss.

However, he revealed he had heard the squad are “really impressed” with the new manager’s methods already.

“It’s always a tough start when you go to a club like Rangers,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“They’re looking for instant results. The expectation levels of the fans is pretty much you’ve got to do it immediately.

“The feedback I’ve heard [from my sources] of Giovanni on the training ground along, with his assistant Roy Makaay, has been really impressive. It is great to hear.

“It boosts the players. They’re maybe lacking a wee bit of belief at the moment with the sticky start to the season and losing in the cup.

“It looks like a wee bit of confidence has gone there.

“Giovanni, taking the coaching sessions, the training sessions, I’m hearing that the players were very, very impressed.”

Van Bronckhorst’s first game in charge will see Rangers face Sparta Prague in their Europa League group stage tie.

His first league game in the dugout will be at Livingston on Sunday.

In other news, Rangers TV pundit fears confirmed Van Bronckhorst plan is a non-starter.
