McLeish thrilled by Ralston turnaround after 'fairytale' news from Celtic

Alex McLeish has admitted Anthony Ralston has had a “fairytale” turnaround at Celtic after signing a new contract.

The former Rangers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heralded the 22-year-old for bouncing back at Parkhead after “disappearing”.

As confirmed on Tuesday (2nd November), Ralston has penned a new deal until 2025.

The right-back had signed a contract extension earlier this year.

However, the Hoops state the new deal is a reflection of his importance to the side this season.

Ralston only made one appearance across all competitions last term.

He has already played 22 times this year, more than all his other seasons at Parkhead combined.

McLeish admitted he could hardly believe the defender’s comeback in Glasgow

Reacting to Ralston’s new contract, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That really is a fairytale for Ralston.

“A couple of years ago he was mooted as being a great up-and-comer.

“He came in, he disappeared and he seems to have found a lot of confidence under the new gaffer.

“Possibly words from the gaffer, Postecoglou, has reinforced his confidence.

“We talk about confidence quite a lot and I’m a great believer in players who play with great belief in themselves.

“That’s what I see about Ralston now. Everything about you becomes vibrant. You’re taking everything on the coach is saying.

“You’re also imparting your own influence on the team.”

A graduate of Celtic’s youth ranks, Ralston has played a total of 42 times across all competitions to date.

He has featured in every minute in all but two of the Bhoys’ 24 games this term.
