McLeish wowed by one 'brilliant' thing Kent did in Rangers comeback

Alex McLeish has raved over Ryan Kent after a dazzling return to the Rangers side against Brondby on Thursday night.

The former Ibrox boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heralded the 24-year-old’s change of pace and excellent close control in the 1-1 draw.

Kent came on before the hour mark and set up fellow substitute Ianis Hagi for the equaliser.

The former Liverpool man had been missing through injury prior to Thursday’s Europa League tie.

He sat out 10 games across all competitions with a hamstring problem.

McLeish admitted he was thrilled to see Kent back in action for Rangers.

He also applauded Steven Gerrard for shaking things up with his substitutions.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “The substitutes made a great impact, they were very lively.

“Brondby got a little bit mixed up and confused by the fact Stevie switched three and moved Aribo back into midfield.

“He got a really impressive performance from those three, particularly Ryan Kent and Hagi.

“Kent brings that change of pace. A great touch for his assist in the goal. It was a brilliant touch to lose not just one defender but I think three.

“He slipped a lovely ball through for Hagi.”

An own goal from Leon Balogun gave Brondby the lead in Denmark.

Rangers sit third in their Europa League group, behind second-placed Sparta Prague on their head-to-head record.

The two teams will face each other at Ibrox on November 25 as they battle it out to finish as runners-up behind Olympique Lyonnais.
