One of Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier looks set to leave Rangers this summer in order to fund new signings at Ibrox, according to Jackie McNamara.
The former Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that it seems as though the Light Blues have to sell before they can buy but that a £20million asking price for the striker is a ludicrous demand.
The Gers’ managing director Stewart Robertson was quoted at a Q&A as saying that the club valued the Colombian at the same price as former Celtic man Moussa Dembele, who left for £20million in 2018.
McNamara thinks that Morelos is the club’s biggest asset but that he could be worth just over half the price tag Robertson is suggesting, stating that Tavernier could also earn them a decent fee were he to go.
“Rangers, there will be changes there in some way, inevitably some ins and outs to fund things for them,” McNamara told Football Insider.
“I think either Morelos or Tavernier could move on to free up quite a bit of money for them to invest in other positions. I think Morelos is the one that they think will earn them the most money, Tavernier’s one that could bring them in a good bit of money. He has done well last year.
“It’s hard to put a price on him. They were talking about £20million for Morelos which I don’t think they’ll get anywhere near. I think more realistic will be £10million or £12million. Tavernier – he’s a full back, he produces a lot of assists.”
The right-back, also the club captain at Ibrox, has featured in just short of 200 matched for Rangers during his time in Glasgow, with 57 of those coming in the 2018/19 campaign.
He managed to score 17 times and chip in with a further 20 assists across all competitions, while Morelos netted 30 and set his teammates up with 11.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have agreed a deal with a forward who will be heading to Portugal for pre-season.
