Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan is set to undergo a medical at Stoke City today ahead of a loan move to the Championship club, Football Insider understands.
A number of Championship clubs, including West Brom and Bristol City, have shown an interest in landing the 27-year-old striker in this summer’s window.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that Stoke have won the race to sign the Republic of Ireland international and the terms of the loan transfer were agreed between the two clubs.
Stoke boss Nathan Jones has been looking to bring in a new forward to add firepower to his frontline and he sees Hogan as someone who can boost their promotion aims.
Hogan spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United and helped them win promotion to the Premier League, scoring two goals in eight appearances.
Villa are happy to loan out Hogan again as he is unlikely to figure in Dean Smith’s first-team plans in the Premier League following a major squad overhaul at Villa Park this summer.
The club have signed two attacking players – forward Wesley Moraes and winger Jota – among 12 new arrivals in a massive overhaul costing nearly £150million.
Hogan has struggled to make an impact at Villa since his £10million transfer from Brentford in January 2017.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club are working on a deal to sign another West Brom star.
