Medical today: Cardiff City agree to sign Leeds defender Drameh after breakthrough - Sources

Leeds United defender Cody Drameh is undergoing a Cardiff City medical on Wednesday, Football Insider has learned.

This site broke the news on 1 January that United manager Marcelo Bielsa had given the green light to the right-back, 20, going out on loan this month.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Cardiff have won the race among Championship clubs to take Drameh for the rest of the season following a breakthrough in talks.

Nottingham Forest had been close to a deal but their second-tier rival has intensified negotiations in recent days and a deal has now been struck.

Drameh is headed to Cardiff for medical tests and to pen a contract before being announced as a temporary signing.

Leeds’ decision to loan out the youngster has been greeted with confusion among the club’s supporters.

The Yorkshire giants are still struggling to cope with an injury crisis that has deprived an already small squad of so many first team players.

Tyler Roberts and rising star Joe Gelhardt became the latest stars to be ruled out for extended periods after the FA Cup defeat to West Ham.

Drameh has made five senior appearances for Leeds since signing from Fulham in the summer of 2020.

Three of those have come in the Premier League this season, including a start in the 4-1 defeat to Arsenal and sub displays against Man City and Norwich City.

The latest came in a 21-minute run-out against West Ham last Sunday, a match in which three of Leeds’ four defensive starters were subbed.

Drameh was criticised by Ian Wright among others for his positioning in the defeat to Arsenal last month.

In other news, Leeds United have been hit by another “huge” injury in the last 48 hours.
