Medical today: Cardiff City agree to sign Tottenham target Ollie Tanner - Sources

Lewes winger Ollie Tanner is undergoing a medical at Cardiff City on Wednesday, Football Insider understands.

The 20-year-old turned down a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

A recruitment source told Football Insider he has now decided to sign for Cardiff after spending time on trial with the club.

Lewes released a statement at the end of the winter window (28 January) confirming they had agreed a deal with a Premier League club for the winger but the move collapsed over personal terms.

Tanner, a former Arsenal academy player, moved to Isthmian Premier Division side Lewes last summer (2021) after being released by Bromley.

His early performances were rewarded with a new deal and he is under contract at the Dripping Pan until the end of next season.

Lewes finished the season in seventh place in England’s seventh tier, narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

Tanner may go straight into Cardiff’s Under-23s set up and Steve Morison has not been afraid to give youth a chance.

He brought through the likes of Isaak Davies and Mark Davies as his side finished 18th in the Championship last season.

The club’s academy has category 2 status so their Under-23s side feature in the Professional Development League.

Darren Purse’s side finished third in the table this season, behind Ipswich Town and Bristol City.

Morison was the Under-23s boss before being promoted to the senior side, initially on an interim basis, in October 2021.

In other news, Cardiff City will listen to offers for an attacker.
