Southampton striker Sam Gallagher is due for a medical at Blackburn Rovers today after the two clubs agreed a £5million fee for the player, Football Insider understands.
A Blackburn source has told Football Insider the club have settled the price for the forward and Southampton have given him the green light for him to hold talks and undergo an Ewood Park medical.
A number of Championship clubs have shown an interest in Gallagher this summer, but Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has made Gallagher one of his top targets this summer as he sees him as a key addition to his squad.
Gallagher, who can play at centre-forward as well as in wide attacking roles, has demonstrated his potential during loan spells in the Championship at Milton Keynes Dons, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City.
The England Under-20 international was especially effective in 2016-17 at Blackburn, scoring 12 goals from 47 appearances from all competitions despite being used predominantly on the left flank.
The 23-year-old has two years remaining on his contract and has also attracted interest from other second-tier clubs as well as some in the Premier League.
He joined Southampton from Plymouth in 2012, but has struggled to hold down a spot in the first-team at St Mary’s and he is keen to be playing regular football at this stage of his career.
Gallagher featured just six times for Southampton in 2018-19 and his 26 appearances for the club in total have yielded just two goals.
In other Southampton news, it can be REVEALED that the club have agreed to sign star for £27million in fee and wages.
