Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to undergo a Liverpool medical today (Wednesday) and complete a £40million transfer from Arsenal, according to a reliable journalist.

Independent correspondent Simon Hughes reported on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that the Merseysiders are close to signing the England international.

Hughes claimed there is “every chance” that Oxlade-Chamberlain will undergo medical tests at England’s St George’s Park headquarters this afternoon.

This comes after widespread reports that Liverpool were given the green light by Arsenal to hold talks with the attacking midfielder.

BBC Sport correspondent David Ornstein reported on his personal Twitter account in the early hours of Wednesday that the Arsenal midfielder has has heart set on Anfield.

Ornstein explained that Liverpool’s bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain is lower than that of Chelsea, as Arsenal hold out for a £40million valuation.

Ornstein revealed that Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to quit Arsenal because he wants to play centrally rather than the right wing-back position in which he has been used in the new season and at the end of 2016-17.

At Chelsea, the player is convinced he would be in the running to compete with Victor Moses for the right flank role rather than the more advanced central position he feels better reflects his talents.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been insistent that he wanted to keep the midfielder and described his player as the future of the club as recently as Friday.

But it has been stated that the club’s stance has changed in the wake of their humiliating defeat at 4-0 at Anfield on Sunday and they are now willing to let him go.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the Merseysiders have tabled a fresh jaw-dropping bid for a dazzling attacker in a fresh to sign him by Thursday.
