Leeds United defender Niall Huggins is undergoing a Sunderland medical this morning, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club have agreed terms with Sunderland for the transfer of Huggins.

He has been given the green light to head to the Stadium of Light and undergo a medical before completing a permanent move.

It will see Huggins end his lengthy association with Leeds.

The youngster penned an improved three-year deal last December running until 2023.

That appeared to signal he was regarded as a future first teamer under Marcelo Bielsa.

Huggins went on to make his senior debut as a second-half substitute in February's 4-2 Premier League defeat to Arsenal.

He played the last 37 minutes of the match at right-back but did not add to that solitary appearance.

He is now set to join the best-supported club in League One in Sunderland, who are vying for promotion this season.

Huggins has been capped by Wales at Under-21 level and made 17 appearances for the Whites' Under-23s last term.

Manager Lee Johnson has overseen a fine start to the new campaign in which his side have won two of their three league matches.

They suffered their first defeat on Tuesday night with a surprise 1-0 loss at Burton Albion.
