Liverpool are favourites to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according to the latest betting odds.
Leading bookmaker Sky Bet have the Reds at odds of 3/1 to sign the highly-rated Premier League ace before September 3.
However, in a Merseyside transfer twist, the Sun claim that Everton are leading “a pack of big hitters” to sign Pickford and Burnley defender Micheal Keane in a sensational £40million swoop.
It is said that Everton have made “the first serious move” in the chase for Pickford with Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal the other heavyweights interested in his signature.
The Toffees are 5/1 to sign the 23-year-old shot-stopper behind Champions League chasing duo Man City (4/1) and Liverpool.
England under-21 international Pickford has been in outstanding form for the Black Cats this season despite his side sitting rock-bottom of the Premier League table.
He has produced a number of match winning and match saving performances for David Moyes’ side as they are seemingly heading for the second division of English football.
Football Insider verdict:
Young, confident and full of talent. Both Liverpool and Everton would do very well to secure the signature of Pickford in the summer. Finding stability in the goalkeeping department can be one of the hardest things to do, but with Pickford, there is the possibility that he can provide that. The highly-rated shot-stopper will no doubt be involved in a transfer tug of war in the summer with it looking highly likely that Sunderland will drop down a division. Therefore, whoever can offer the most money will most likely land the England under-21 international. But, he is perhaps better off moving to the blue half of Merseyside where he is likely to see more first team action. Regardless of what happens, Pickford must ensure that he continues playing at the top level because any break will stall his progress.
In other Liverpool transfer news, a deal is almost done as this 22-time international has agreed a £2.2million transfer.
