West Ham are keeping tabs on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, Football Insider has learned.
The French goalkeeper, who turned 21 this week, has made a huge impression at Leeds over the last 12 months.
A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club are making checks on Meslier ahead of the summer window.
He has been identified as a top talent with Premier League experience capable of developing into an outstanding number one.
The Irons’ current first choice Lukasz Fabianski turns 36 and is out of contract at the end of the season.
He has held talks with the hiearchy about an extension to his deal but an agreement is not yet in place.
West Ham are confident they are well placed to keep the Poland international as they also have a one-year option in his current deal.
Nevertheless, potential alternatives are being assessed while Fabianski’s position and long-term future remains unresolved.
Fabianski’s deputy is Darren Randolph, who is 33 and stood in for the Pole when he missed three Premier League and FA Cup matches due to injury this season.
At Leeds, Meslier has started 25 of their 26 Premier League matches this season.
He converted his initial one-season loan into a permanent move from Lorient last summer but his contract expires in two years’ time.
Speaking to the LUFC Fan Zone podcast, Xavier Fleury, Meslier’s agent, insisted “big clubs” were already taking an interest in the young shot-stopper.
