Michael Skubala agrees new Lincoln City contract after Bristol City talks

Michael Skubala has agreed to sign a new contract with Lincoln City after links with the vacant Bristol City position, sources have told Football Insider.

Talks are believed to have been held with the Robins over their vacant position, but it soon became clear that the boss was unlikely to take over at Ashton Gate.

His new deal will extend this boss’ stay at the LNER Stadium beyond the current 2028 expiry date as he is ready to commit his long-term future to their project.

Having led Lincoln to the League One title last time out, Skubala is preparing for an ambitious push up the Championship table as they aim to avoid relegation.

The club are now putting ambitious plans in place for the future, and getting the manager tied down to an extended contract is seen as the first big step forward.

Michael Skubala agrees to sign new Lincoln City deal

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 11 May that Skubala was set to stay at Lincoln City and was prepared to snub interest from rival Championship clubs.

Skubala was seen as a leading candidate given the success he has had in guiding Lincoln to the League One title and promotion to the Championship with 103 points.

However, he feels the job is not finished and hopes to continue the club’s upward trajectory at the helm, ruling out any possibility of jumping ship.

Committing his future to the club with a new long-term contract is seen as the natural next step, as they have been keen to tie him down and deter any interest.

Plans will now be put in place for what could be a busy transfer window as they aim to avoid dropping straight back down into League One next season.

Who will be the next Bristol City manager?

Bristol City remain in search of their next manager after Skubala made clear his intention to remain at Lincoln and was quickly ruled out of contention.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that John Mousinho is a contender for Bristol City, and was viewed among their top targets alongside Skubala.

However, Tommy Elphick has now emerged as the front-runner for the position after working alongside Andoni Iraola on the coaching staff at Bournemouth.

The Cherries’ success this season has highlighted their positive work on the training ground, and Elphick has recently received glowing endorsements form Iraola.

While he is seen as a surprise contender to replace Roy Hodgson, he appears to be edging closer to landing his first senior managerial role.
