Michael Vaughan trolls Leeds as Sheffield Wednesday climb into top six

By Will Butcher

Michael Vaughan has trolled Leeds on Twitter after the Yorkshire giants dropped out of the Championship’s top six for the first time in five months.

Leeds lost 1-0 to Wolves on Monday afternoon after Nouha Dicko slid the ball past in-form goalkeeper Rob Green to steal all three points for Paul Lambert’s side.

That allowed former England cricket captain Vaughan’s Sheffield Wednesday to move into fifth place, while Fulham climb to sixth after both sides secured wins on Monday.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, Vaughan sarcastically asked “How are we all in Leeds?” and told Wolves “I absolutely love you” following their victory in Yorkshire.

With three games to go in the Championship, it remains remarkably close in the race for the play-offs with Huddersfield and Reading likely to remain in third and fourth.

That leaves fifth and sixth up for grabs, with Leeds, Fulham and Vaughan’s Wednesday set to fight for a shot at promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds sit in seventh with 73 points after only one win in five games, while Fulham beat Aston Villa 3-1 to move ahead of the Whites on goal difference. Wednesday sit two points ahead on 75.

Leeds are next in action against Championship strugglers Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday, as they look to secure three points and hope their rivals slip up.

Former Swansea boss Monk has seen his side beat the Brewers already this season, as goals from Chris Wood and Souleymane Doukara earned a 2-0 win at Elland Road back in October.

In other Leeds news, Michael Gray has revealed he is desperate to see his former side do this.
