Michail Antonio may be set for fringe West Ham role after transfer update - pundit

Eddie Nketiah will not replace Michail Antonio as the first-choice striker for West Ham next season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Nketiah would get plenty of game time if he moved to West Ham as he could share the load with Antonio up front.

The Mirror reported on Tuesday (10 May) that the Hammers are one of six Premier League clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old on a free transfer.

He is out of contract at the Emirates this summer but is claimed Arsenal will do everything they can to keep him at the club.

Nketiah has scored four times in his last five Premier League starts but before that he had only featured from the bench in the top-flight this season and wants more regular playing time.

“I don’t know about being the main man at West Ham because I still think Antonio is very good,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He wouldn’t go there and be number two, he could go there and they could rotate. West Ham need strikers.

“It could be an option, definitely. He’s done himself no harm with his recent performances, a lot of clubs will be looking at him.”

Antonio has found the net nine times in the Premier League this season and is West Ham’s record scorer in the competition with 55 goals.

However, his goal in the 4-0 win at Norwich City at the weekend (8 May) was his first goal in the competition since New Year’s Day.

In other news, West Ham have made a move to sign a Premier League star and ‘he’s the perfect Moyes player’.
