Michael Owen predicts Liverpool v West Ham, expects plenty of goals

By Amir Mir

Michael Owen has backed Liverpool to beat relegation threatened West Ham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

TV pundit Owen also stated that he expects to see plenty of goals at the weekend after both were involved in heavy defeats during their last Premier League fixture.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a 4-3 loss at Bournemouth despite leading 3-1 midway through the second half.

By contrast the Hammers were thrashed 5-1 by Arsenal on home soil which now leaves them one place and one point above the relegation zone.

Former England international Owen offered his thoughts on the showdown as he explained why there may be a lot of goal mouth action.

“The Reds have played on a Sunday three times so far this season and on each occasion there have been seven goals scored,” Owen wrote in his Bet Victor column.

“I expect to see plenty of goals at Anfield, at least for the Reds. These are slightly worrying times for West Ham and their supporters having shipped five to Arsenal at home last weekend.”

The Hammers could drop into the relegation zone, if they fail to win at Anfield on Sunday and those below them pick up points.

Whereas Klopp’s side, who are four points off leaders Chelsea in the table, could fall further behind in the title race, if they are unable to defeat the relegation threatened London outfit.

One of the biggest problems for Bilic’s team this term has been conceding a lot of goals. They have shipped 29 in 14 games, only rock-bottom Swansea have let in more.

On the other hand, the Reds have scored a league high of 35 goals this season, including scoring ten during their last three home matches.

In other Liverpool news, Jurgen Klopp has been given a boost as he delivers an injury update ahead of the Hammers clash.
