Sources: Rangers winger tipped to be 'Great' in line to join English club next season

Rangers are planning to loan out Glenn Middleton to a Football League Club next season, Football Insider has been told.

The winger, 20, spent the first half of this campaign on loan at Hibernian and then joined Bradford City at the end of the winter window.

Neither move worked out, although the Rangers man was starting to establish himself at the English League Two side before lockdown brought their season to a premature halt.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club’s coaches have high hopes for Middleton and believe he can establish himself in their first team in the future.

But Steven Gerrard and his staff believe Middleton would be best served by a full campaign at another EFL team in 2020-21.

There is great uncertainty about the two English lower leagues – which were curtailed early – and whether their next season will start in line with the next Premier League and Championship programmes.

Born in Glasgow, Middleton came through the youth ranks at Northampton Town and Norwich City before eventually returning home to join Rangers in 2018.

He was handed his competitive debut by Steven Gerrard later that year and has been described by the Liverpool legend as a “great impact player.”

Middleton has already played 28 times for Rangers, scoring five times and providing five assists.

Ex-Rangers defender Alan Hutton admits he was excited by Middleton when he first broke onto the scene and believes he can still offer his parent club an option next season.

Hutton told Football Insider: “He broke through and I think everyone was excited – the pace, the power he had.

“He’s got the attributes and he could be a great player so hopefully, when he does come back, he knuckles down and work hard.

“Once you get there, it’s about staying there and I think that was the difficult thing for him. He was a bit in and out but he never really showed enough to start every week.”

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have made a decision on landing new full-back after Calvin Bassey agreement.
