Midfielder eyed by Leeds rejects contract, wants move up north – report
By Will Butcher
Jonny Howson has decided to reject a new deal with Norwich amid interest from former side Leeds, according to reports.
Team Talk claimed Leeds are preparing a £4million bid for the 28-year-old midfielder earlier this month, with Brighton and Burnley also credited with an interest in the Norwich ace.
Now, the Eastern Daily Press claim Howson’s representatives have made it clear he does not want to commit his long-term future with the Canaries, and the club are now willing to listen to offers for his services.
It is believed the Leeds academy product wants to return to the north of England.
Howson, who was a striker in Leeds’ academy before adopting a central-midfield role and captaining the Yorkshire giants in League One, still has two years left on his Norwich contract.

Morley-born Howson made his Leeds debut against Barnet in September 2006 before amassing a huge 235 league and cup appearances with his boyhood club.
Norwich’s number eight then joined Norwich in the summer of 2012, and has since gone on to play 188 times for the east Anglian side in both the Championship and the Premier League.
Leeds have four first-team players available to them in the middle of the park, but owner Andrea Radrizzani could look to bring the Elland Road favourite back to the Whites.
Football Insider verdict:
Howson would prove to be a huge signal of intent should he be re-signed by Leeds this summer, but room needs to be made for his arrival. Captain Liam Bridcutt’s position is undoubted, while Ronaldo Vieira has recently signed a new four-year deal with the managerless outfit. That leaves Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips, with neither significantly impressing during the 2016-17 campaign. Phillips was inconsistent at best, while O’Kane struggled with numerous injury troubles and both players could find their position in the side under threat if Leeds do opt to press on in signing Howson. But, it is without doubt, that Howson would be an inspired signing as the Whites look to end their 13-year stay outside the Premier League next season.
