Young midfielder Victor Fernandez has aired his delight after signing professional terms with Newcastle.
Rafa Benitez failed to make a single signing in the January window following a well reported lengthy pursuit of former man Andros Townsend.
However, it would seem that the experienced manager has been able to capture one of his fellow countrymen just days after the window closed in Fernandez.
The player joins from the Spanish third tier and he aired his delight at moving to England, while also identifying what he is leaving behind in Spain at his young age.
“Happy to sign my first professional contract with Newcastle United,” wrote Fernandez on his private Instagram account, as quoted by the Chronicle in their blog (3.00pm).
“I leave behind my family, friends, my house. Everything to become what I have been looking for since childhood.
“I face this new stage in England with great enthusiasm and with great desire to be able to defend this great club. I thank all those who have trusted me in difficult times. It will be difficult, but the best is yet to come.”
Newcastle currently boast a strong midfield, containing the likes of Jack Colback, Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden.
But, they will now be hoping that Fernandez can grow at the club and one day break into the first team.
The north east side have a strong history of developing players through their ranks and they will now be hoping that the Spanish player can do the same in the future.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle are currently strong in the midfield positions. However a potential star of the future will never go amiss at any club. The Magpies are performing excellently in the Championship and they will be hoping that their next few signings will be able to play for them in the top flight if they make it back up there. Benitez has certainly shown that he has a good knowledge of his home country in the past too and fans will now be excited to see what Fernandez has to deliver. Supporters were calling for a new midfielder over the January window to cover for star Shelvey if he becomes unavailable for whatever reason and although Fernandez isn’t the name people wanted, he could one day prove a very smart acquisition.
In other Newcastle transfer news, Benitez is ready to quit the club after failing to sign these two players.
