Miguel Almiron tipped to dazzle after 'wowing' pundit in Newcastle United pre-season

Miguel Almiron could be the latest Newcastle United player to experience a renaissance under Eddie Howe after dazzling in pre-season.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s pre-season form.

Almiron, 28, has scored six goals and chipped in with two assists during Newcastle’s pre-season fixtures.

The Paraguay star scored a brace in the Magpies’ 3-2 loss to Benfica on Tuesday (26 July).

Several Newcastle stars, most notably Joelinton, have experienced drastic improvements in form since Eddie Howe took over as manager in November 2021.

Kenny claims Almiron could be the next Magpies player to impress doubters after an underwhelming career on Tyneside.

“Six goals, wow.” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They are pre-season games so they don’t mean a great deal but there is nothing better than getting them goals and getting your confidence up.

“It’s a new era at Newcastle and a fresh start. They are going to be pushing near that top half of the table and I don’t see why Almiron can’t be a part of that.

“He has had a cracking pre-season and that is what it is for, to get fit and get confidence. We will have to see how he does next season.”

Almiron has made 123 appearances for Newcastle since joining the club from Atlanta United in January 2019.

He has scored 14 goals in all competitions and chipped in with five assists.
