Mills: Johnstone and Pereira are quitting West Brom - and Ismael has no say
Valerien Ismael has no choice but to sell West Brom stars Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira this summer, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender insisted the fans need to be “realistic” after relegation from the Premier League.
Quoted by Birmingham Live on 5 July, the new Albion boss admitted: “It is my expectation that they [Johnstone and Pereira] will leave.”
The pair were standout stars despite the Baggies suffering relegation last term.
Goalkeeper Johnstone made 166 saves – the most in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Pereira scored 11 times and provided six assists in 33 top-flight games, including 30 starts.

Asked for his assessment of Ismael’s comments, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He’s letting the fans know that this is not my decision.
“I’ve come in, they both want to leave, they’re looking to move on. This is nothing to do with me. It’s not that I don’t want them here.
“Maybe he’s trying to get ahead of it and appease the fans who are probably thinking ‘Some of these players might want to leave.’
“Fans have to be realistic and maybe that lowers expectations a little bit.
“It’s the manager saying ‘I’d love to keep them but it’s nothing really to do with me.'”
Johnstone has just one year left to run on his West Brom contract.
Pereira’s deal expires in the summer of 2024 after he penned a four-year deal when he joined permanently last summer.
