Mills: Lloris tipped to be replaced at Tottenham after 'strange' news
Danny Mills has suggested Pierluigi Gollini could replace Hugo Lloris as Tottenham number one in the long term.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender admitted he found the signing of a new goalkeeper “strange” as Spurs already have Lloris and Joe Hart on their books.
Tottenham announced last week (24 July) that Gollini had moved to north London on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
That has cast doubt over the position of club captain and virtual untouchable Lloris, who has started every match when fit for almost a decade.
Football Insider revealed in May he is set to stay at the club next term as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
He will likely vie with Gollini for the number one jersey with Hart set to be third-choice under Nuno Espirito Santo.

“It’s a strange one, surprising,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Joe Hart’s still there so you’re going to have three goalkeepers around of real quality.
“Maybe they are thinking of succession planning, bring him in, work with two very experienced goalkeepers for the next year or so. Then see how he cracks on and how he goes. If it goes well, he will replace Lloris.”
Gollini has spent the last three-and-a-half years with Atalanta after a spell with Aston Villa in the Championship.
The 26-year-old has kept 38 clean sheets in 112 games for the Serie A club across all competitions.
His performances earned him his first and only Italy cap in November 2019 but he was not part of the squad that won the European Championship this summer.
