Mills makes 'incredible' Traore claim after major update on Liverpool pursuit

Adama Traore has “incredible pace” but Liverpool will struggle to transform him into a player who regularly contributes goals and assists.

That is the view of ex-Man City and England full-back Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update on the future of Traore.

A Wolves source told Football Insider earlier this week (30 November) the electric winger may be available for just £18million in the January window.

That has put Liverpool on red alert as they were prepared to pay between £20million and £25million for the 25-year-old over the summer (2021).

Traore has entered the final 18 months of his Molineux deal and has found himself on the bench in recent weeks.

Asked whether an Anfield move could see him return to his best, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Can he be unlocked? It’s going to be difficult.

“He had one great season where he’s been off the charts. We know he’s got incredible pace and for a little while, he had a bit of an end product. Then that dissipated and he had a couple of very average seasons for Wolves.

“Can Klopp get anything better out of him? I’m not sure.

“Also you’re bringing him into the first-team squad, so who do you leave out? Who do you drop? That’s the problem Liverpool would have. You wouldn’t drop any of their attacking players for him.”

Traore has only scored twice in the Premier League since the beginning of the 2020-21 campaign.

The Spain international’s best top-flight season came in the 2019-20 season when he scored four times and provided nine assists in 37 games.
