Mills reveals what he really thinks of Patterson ahead of Rangers clash against Hearts

Nathan Patterson is “on a high” after his exploits for Scotland and should retain his place in the Rangers starting XI, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender insisted Patterson is “flying” and should start against Hearts if he is not fatigued.

As quoted by Daily Record, Steven Gerrard revealed (October 4) he trusted the 19-year-old as much as captain James Tavernier.

Patterson earned his first league start of the season against Hibs just before the international break.

He played twice for Scotland over the last week in their wins over Israel and the Faroe Islands.

Asked whether he may be dropped to the bench given his workload, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They’ll assess him when he comes back to see how he is, how he looks.

“He’s also on a high after playing for Scotland. Who’s the more confident? You get them both back into training, have a look at them physically and mentally, have a little chat. Then take it from there.

“It might be the case, he’s been away, had some good results although it was a squeaky one against the Faroe Islands, but he’s on a high, he’s flying at the moment.

“Why not allow that to keep going? Or, it might be that he may be fatigued after travelling and you could take him out and they’ve got an ample replacement.

“That’s one they will decide on the training ground over the next day or so.”
