Danny Mills has claimed Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has serious questions to answer after Jesse Lingard’s fine start to life at West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England and Leeds United defender claimed the England international looks like he has a “new lease of life” in claret and blue.
Lingard moved to the London Stadium on loan until the end of the season from Man Utd on deadline day.
Days laster he scored a brace on his Hammers debut in their 3-1 win over Aston Villa before playing the full 90 minutes of their 0-0 draw with Fulham on Saturday.
“Sometimes a player gets a new lease of life, you get that little bit of confidence and that’s what it’s given him,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“You do have to start asking questions ‘Why couldn’t Ole Gunnar Solskjaer get these sort of performances from him? Why couldn’t he see this in him?’
“Sometimes it’s a little bit of staleness and whatever it can be. That new challenge, new players, meeting new teammates, going into those scenarios. It can be absolutely brilliant and that’s what we’ve seen [from Lingard].
“It’s clearly given him a new lease of life which is what David Moyes was looking for and hoping for.
“He’s now got to do that week in, week out. He’s done really, really well and it has to be several games over the course of the next few weeks.”
Lingard‘s start at Villa Park during the week was his first in the Premeir League in over a year after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old did not play for the club in the league this season and was limited to three appearances in domestic cup competitions.
