Danny Mills has suggested Kalvin Phillips will be heading to a top-10 Premier League club if Leeds United miss out on promotion this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United and England defender hailed the midfield anchorman for “exceptional” campaign that’s been integral to the club’s promotion bid.
Phillips was restored to the Leeds starting XI against Hull City last night after serving a one-match suspension and delivered another impressive display in the 2-0 triumph at Elland Road.
This comes after he signed a five-year contract in September, which Football Insider understands includes a release clause of over £20million.
“Kalvin Phillips has been exceptional this year,” Mills told Football Insider. “In the summer, there was a lot of speculation about whether he would go or stay, maybe
go to a mid-table/lower Premier League side…now I think there will be higher Premier League sides looking at him.
“If Leeds don’t get promoted, one or two [top ten clubs] will come knocking on the door for me and that’s where he’ll probably go.”
Leeds maintained their promotion surge by securing a remarkable seventh consecutive league win last night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side leapfrogged West Brom to return to the Championship summit and pulled 11 points clear of Fulham in third place.
Phillips has started 20 of United’s 21 league matches this season, almost all of which he has also finished, as well as both of their League Cup fixtures.
In the latest Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED there has been a major Ben White transfer development.
