Mills swipes at James as he issues 'honest' Leeds verdict
Dan James should be “perfect” for Leeds United but it has not worked just yet, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender suggested James’ poor start to his Leeds career is because he joined a struggling team.
The winger has featured in every Premier League game since moving for a £25million fee from Man United over the summer.
He registered his first assist for his new club against Norwich City last weekend as the Whites earned their second win of the season.
Asked for his assessment of the Welshman’s early Leeds form, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He’s done OK, but if I’m honest I thought he might have done a little bit better.
“Because of the way that Leeds play and the way that he plays I look at it and think, ‘actually, I expected a little bit more’.

“Maybe that’s a little bit harsh because he’s come to a new team but he’s a quality player.
“Maybe it’s because of the fact Leeds aren’t playing particularly well and haven’t done particularly well up to this point.
“I just feel he hasn’t been that spark that I expected he might be.
“He looked the perfect foil for what they had but that hasn’t come to fruition.”
James has now played nine times for Leeds across all competitions, with just one assist to his name.
He is under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2026 after signing a five-year deal on his arrival in the summer.
