Aston Villa suffer double injury blow v Sheffield United, powerhouse returns in timely boost

Aston Villa have revealed that Josh Onomah and Henri Lansbury are both doubts for their Championship clash against Sheffield United, but confirmed that striker Keinan Davis would be available for Sunday’s match.

Tottenham loanee Onomah was deployed in an unfamiliar role as a lone striker last weekend as they lost 2-0 to Derby, but he could be set to miss out with a foot injury.

Lansbury has struggled with injury all season, missing out against the Rams last weekend, and his spell on the sidelines is set to continue on Sunday.

However, the good news surrounds powerhouse striker Davis, whose absence through illness last week saw Onomah thrust up front, and he is set to return against the Blades after training well all week.

Davis has been a virtual ever-present for Villa this season, and the 19-year-old’s importance to the team has grown since Jonathan Kodjia suffered a long term ankle injury, but he has failed to find the net since the end of September.

Villa have lacked for strikers this season, and Davis has had to bear most of the responsibility up front as Scott Hogan also struggles for form after injury.

The loss of Onomah will be a big blow for Villa, with the Spurs loanee impressing in the centre of midfield for Steve Bruce’s side this campaign.

Villa’s loss to Derby leaves them level with opponents Sheffield United on 37 points, with fifth-placed Villa ahead on goal difference.

The news was confirmed on the club’s official Twitter account on Friday morning:
