Monk delivers big Twitter statement after Leeds win over Brighton

By Alex Stevens

Garry Monk took to Twitter on Saturday night to claim that Leeds’ 2-0 win over Brighton was as good as it gets.

The Elland Road manager was delighted with the performance of his players as they kept alive their hopes of automatic promotion.

Two goals from Chris Wood, the first a superb header from a pinpoint Charlie Taylor cross and the second an emphatic penalty, consolidated Leeds’ place at fourth in the table.

They are eight points adrift of second-placed Brighton with eight matches of the campaign remaining and once again showed their mettle in top-of-the-table encounters.

Monk was blown away by the display from his team, who appear all but certain of securing a place in the end-of-season play-offs, and delivered a ringing endorsement on social media.

“Fantastic performance against a very good side – it doesn’t get any better than that,” said Monk on his personal Twitter account. “Credit to the players and our incredible fans.”

Wood’s double lifted his Championship tally for the season to 24 goals, three more than closest rival for the top scorer mantle, Dwight Gayle.

The New Zealand international has scored a remarkable 27 goals in all competitions this season.
