Monk: Leeds defender among injury list for Newcastle clash

By Harvey Byrne

Manager Garry Monk has confirmed that young defender Tyler Denton is injured for Friday evening’s Championship clash against Newcastle.

The 21-year-old left-back has not featured for the Whites’ first team in the league this season.

However, he has played three times for Monk’s team in total with appearances in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Denton has also appeared on the bench for the senior team in six league matches this season, but he has not featured since the 3-2 defeat against Barnsley in January and he has since undergone surgery on his knee.

Monk confirmed in his pre-match press conference that goalkeeper Marco Silvestri would be out of the Good Friday meeting and he has also revealed that Denton will also miss the clash in the club’s only two injuries.

“Hadi Sacko and Liam Bridcutt will both be back in the squad so that is good news. The only injuries are Tyler Denton and Marco Silvestri. We have sent Marco away for an operation,” told Monk in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Denton is considered another bright prospect from the club’s academy and he was being eased into the first team before his injury.

However, fans will now be hoping he returns the same player after the long setback and with first choice left-back Charlie Taylor still not signing a new deal Denton could be viewed as the long-term replacement.
