Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk is eyeing a move for Leeds midfielder Liam Bridcutt, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Monk is “plotting a raid” for the 28-year-old this summer as he looks to improve his squad at the Riverside Stadium.
The pair know each other well from their time together at Elland Road last season when Bridcutt was the club captain.
Monk is preparing to raid his former club this summer following his resignation in May and is considering their central midfielder.
The 38-year-old manager quickly picked up a new role at Boro in the Championship, who will be looking for an automatic return to the Premier League next season.
He showed his qualities by helping Leeds reach seventh last season, but a new deal couldn’t be struck with owner Andrea Radrizzani and Thomas Christiansen has since been named the new manager of the Championship club.
Bridcutt is scheduled to be involved in Leeds’ push for promotion next year as he still has one year remaining on his contract, but Monk could now try bring him to Boro.
The two-time capped Scotland international made 25 appearances across all competitions last season and is recognised as a defensive midfielder.
Football Insider verdict:
Leeds do already have several options in the central midfield area, including the likes of Bridcutt, Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips. New Whites boss Christiansen will need to assess who is in his plans for next season and Bridcutt should remain at the heart of the team. The 28-year-old may not be the most pleasing player on the eye, but he can help the Yorkshire giants grind out the results which can seriously help a promotion campaign. He acts as the defensive screen in midfield and also has good contribution on the ball. Bridcutt can play a vital role next year if he keeps his game simple and let the likes of Vieira alongside him be the creative spark. Leeds must knock back any approaches from Monk for their players and it is no surprise that their former boss could be interested in some star players from Elland Road.
