Monk responds to Premier League interest in Leeds 26-year-old

By Harvey Byrne

Manager Garry Monk has given a frank response to reports stating that Leeds star Pontus Jansson is attracting Premier League clubs.

Swedish publication Expressen claim Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea have “declared an interest” in the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports claimed on their transfer centre blog (Wednesday, 12.25pm) that Southampton are also eyeing a move for the Sweden international.

However, Leeds will stand firm in keeping hold of their centre-back rock and on Thursday Monk simply stated in his pre-match press conference that he doesn’t need to talk with Jansson and that he doesn’t talk about “speculation.”

The conference was covered by Yorkshire Evening Post writer Lee Sobot on his personal Twitter account.

Jansson joined Leeds in the summer on an initial season-long loan deal from Serie A side Torino before signing permanently in February for a fee worth £3.5million.

He has established himself as one of the club’s stars, appearing in 32 matches for the Yorkshire giants this season as they sit in a high seventh place with just three matches of the campaign left.

Fans will now be hoping their centre-back star remains focused for the final few fixtures as he is also sat on a suspension tightrope with another yellow card seeing him face a three-match suspension.

In other Leeds news, here are three reasons why Jansson must stay at the club.
