Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno will travel to Rome to finalise a transfer to Lazio, according to the Mirror.
The newspaper claim the 26-year-old is set to jet out to the Italian capital “with a view to signing for the Serie A side” as he tries to revive a career that has stalled at Anfield.
Moreno is free to discuss terms of a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs as his Anfield deal expires at the end of the season.
Football Insider verdict:
Given that he has made just four starts for Liverpool this season – two of which were in the domestic cups – and only five appearances in total, Moreno is set to leave Anfield with a whimper after an erratic five-year spell. The 26-year-old has only occasionally hit the heights and lived up to expectations but most of his performances at left-back left Liverpool fans wondering why their club couldn’t sign an upgrade. They eventually did, and a massive one at that, in the summer of 2017 when Andy Robertson was prised from Hull City for bargain £8million fee following their relegation. Robertson had to bide his time, and it took an ankle injury to Moreno to give him a chance, but the Spaniard has barely been involved over the last 16 months, despite being in the matchday squad against Fulham last weekend, due to the consistent excellence of one of the best players in the Premier League this season. It will be frustrating to lose Moreno for nothing, but Liverpool can reflect on the fact they still have the best left-back in the English top flight.
In other Liverpool transfer news, a £7m deal has been agreed after a recommendation from Dejan Lovren.
