Rangers make contact over prolific 1 in 2 top-flight striker, player open to move - report

Preston North End striker Louis Moult would be open to a return to Scotland and a move to Ibrox in the summer, according to a report.

The Daly Mail claim that the striker is back on the Rangers radar and the club have asked to be kept in contact over any developments between now and the summer.

Rangers looked at Moult in the summer before then manager Pedro Caixinha opted for, among others, Eduardo Herrera.

Herrera has been a flop at Ibrox after joining from Pumas for a fee of around £1.5million, scoring just one goal in 19 games.

Moult was an instant thorn in the Rangers side, as he scored twice to knock them out of the Betfred Cup semi-final.

And, on the back of that he secured a £450k move to Preston in the Championship.

That hasn’t worked out though – he’s played just six league games, with just two starts and is still waiting for his first goal.

He’s dropped down the pecking order, behind Callum Robinson and Seam Maguire, and the Mail claims that if that continues, he would be open to a move back up north with Rangers.

Football Insider verdict:

This is a very interesting development and Murty should have his ears pricked up. Moult has been a disaster for Preston in the Championship, but he’s proven in the premiership. 50 goals in 98 games in the Premiership for a club that doesn’t create as many chances as Rangers is a great return. If he doesn’t play much between now and the end of the season Preston will be happy to cut their losses and Murty can pick up a striker on the cheap who will guarantee him goals. Rangers fans know all too well what Moult can do after he knocked them out of the semi-final of the cup back in October.
