Moyes blasts West Ham star after revealing threats made in Newcastle defeat
West Ham manager David Moyes has singled out Michail Antonio for criticism after revealing he threatened the midfielder with the axe at half time in the defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Hammers let a 1-0 lead, earned by Marko Arnautovic’s early opener, slip from their grasp, as they fell to a 3-2 defeat to the Magpies, who themselves had not won a game in nine appearances.
It was a disappointing result for the Hammers, who had been on a good run of form in the league in recent weeks, and means that have now been leapfrogged by Rafael Benitez’s side, with Moyes seeing his side sitting just one point and one place above the relegation zone.
Speaking after the game, Moyes chose to single out Antonio, named among the starters in midfield, for criticism, blasting his lack of impact despite the threat of being axed at half time.
The Scottish boss was quoted by football.london as saying: “(He) just never seemed to get a run in and he’s an important player for us.
“We said to him at half time ‘Look if you’re not gonna show us then we’re going to have to do something about it,’ and I hoped he would find a way of getting a run in.

“He never at any time gave us anything which we could see would be helping us.”
The 27-year-old has been a regular in the Hammers’ line ups this season, making 15 league appearances and notching up a single goal for the club, but found himself hooked just before the hour mark on Saturday as Moyes looked for a way to secure three points.
In other West Ham transfer news, the club are reportedly readying a sensational double swoop for these two PL stars.
