Rangers manager Graeme Murty has admitted he was blown away by Wes Foderingham’s performance in the 2-0 win over Aberdeen and believes it shows why the Englishman is the “top goalkeeper” in the Scottish Premiership.
Foderingham made a number of crucial saves to keep the Gers in the game after some long spells of dominance by the Gers and Murty was full of praise for his goalkeeper as he picked up a third consecutive clean sheet.
The win over the Dons sees Rangers overtake Derek McInnes’ side in second in the league in their first game back after the winter break.
The Gers boss also credited Foderingham’s work on the training ground as a big reason why he can be relied up to make important saves for the Gers when called upon.
“Wes Foderingam pulled out a display there, when we really needed him, of excellent saves.” Murty said in a video shared on the club’s official website.
“It just underlined for me why he’s one of, if not, the top goalkeeper in the league.”
“I was shaking my head in bemusement at times; the positioning; the reactions; the strength of his core; the way he works every day puts him in that condition to make those saves.
“You have to make them on big stages – and they don’t come much bigger than Ibrox at home against Aberdeen – and when called upon I thought he was outstanding.”
Foderingham has been a mainstay in the Ibrox starting XI since joining the club in 2015 under Mark Warburton from Swindon Town.
The former England youth international has made 118 appearances for the Gers and lifted the Scottish Championship and Scottish Challenge Cup during his time in Glasgow but is yet to get his hands on a major piece of silverware.
The 27-year-old recently signed a new deal which will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2020.
