Alan Hutton has suggested clubs will be looking at signing Ryan Kent in January as Rangers prepare to table a big-money contract offer over the next month.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insisted it was a “no brainer” to get the mercurial winger tied down in a bid to ward off interested parties ahead of the winter window.
Kent has been at the heart of Rangers’ good form this season with six goals and seven assists under his belt already.
Hutton has insisted the English winger is well-deserving of a new deal at Ibrox and suggested he would be in high demand from rivals if he was not tied down.
Asked if talk of a new deal was music to his ears, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, of course and do you know what? He deserves it, we can’t sit here and say that he doesn’t.
“Obviously we know the Leeds thing was a big option in the summer transfer window and I presume people looking at his performances recently will be looking at him for January so it’s a no brainer to go in and start discussing a contract.
“You don’t want to lose a talent like that midway through the season, you want to keep them, we know it’s such a big and important year for Rangers so to keep him for long term is the main thing for Rangers going forward.
“We know he’s going to go at some point but you want to keep him in the short term, especially to help Rangers over the line for stopping this 10-in-a-row.”
