Frank McAvennie feels for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos regarding the “stupid” transfer speculation surrounding him and insists that it must be “crazy for the player.”

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Celtic striker is unsurprised that the 24-year-old had his head turned by speculation earlier in the season after being ‘wanted by every club in Europe according to the Scottish press’.

Morelos has scored three goals in his last two outings for the Gers despite Steven Gerrard revealing last month that the striker’s head had been turned by transfer speculation.

A host of clubs including Lille, AC Milan, Newcastle, West Brom, Everton and West Ham have been reported to be interested in signing the Colombian this summer but for now he remains at Ibrox.

McAvennie is adamant that the Colombia international is still the best striker at the Glasgow club despite the summer arrivals of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten.

“Listen, every day there is another team going in for him,” he told Football Insider.

“He has not gone anywhere but according to the Scottish press he has been wanted by every club in Europe!

“It is stupid and it must be crazy for the player. It will have turned his head at the beginning but now he will be laughing. I would be saying, ‘Who is wanting me today?’ It is incredible and you have to take it as a joke.

“You are only worth what clubs are willing to buy you for and nobody has bought him yet.

“A massive plus for Rangers because he scores goals and no matter who they have brought in Morelos is their best striker.”

In other Rangers news, Alan Hutton has told Football Insider that the Gers need to be “very cautious” after Kemar Roofe injury update.
