Frank McAvennie hails the “unbelievable” James Rodriguez as the Everton midfielder continues to impress this season.

The former West Ham and Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the Toffees made “so many great signings” this summer.

The Toffees confirmed the signing of the Colombia international last month on a free transfer, Rodriguez putting pen to paper on a two year deal at Goodison Park.

His first four Premier League appearances have yielded a remarkable three goals and two assists and helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side to the top of the table.

McAvennie rued the fact that Evertonians could not be in the stadium to watch their team “unbelievable start” to the season.

“Everton just made so many great signings this summer,” he told Football Insider.

“The boy that has come in from Real Madrid – Rodriguez – unbelievable.

“He got Man of the Match last weekend and did not sprint once. I do not understand how he can do that. My God, he has just been spraying the ball all over the place.

“This season is going unbelievably for them. It is just a shame nobody can see it!”

Ancelotti bolstered his squad with the signings of Rodriguez, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Niels Nkounkou, Ben Godfrey and Robin Olsen.

Godfrey, the most expensive of the Toffees recruits this summer, arrived in a £25million deal on deadline-day after Football Insider revealed that the defender had agreed a five-year deal on Merseyside.
