Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha looks on

By Derek Smithson

Nacho Novo has stated that he would be thrilled if Barrie McKay is given a second chance by Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha next season.

The 22-year-old is reportedly being lined up for an Ibrox exit in the summer as the Gers boss prepares for a major reshuffle of his squad.

The Daily Record reported that Rangers are inviting bids of £2million for midfielder McKay after a list of available players has been circulated to English clubs.

The winger has failed to cement a position in the starting XI following Caixinha’s arrival and his five-year spell with the Scottish giants could be coming to an end.

However, ex-Gers player Novo has revealed that he would like to see McKay remain at the club for next season and believes he still has a lot to offer.

“He’s got all the tools to be a top player – skill, lots of pace and, as we’ve seen with some of his strikes over the last couple of years, an eye for goal,” Novo told the Daily Record. “In some games this season he has maybe not made the impact he can but I have to wonder if that’s where good man-management is important.

“He’ll have watched all of his players every day in training since he took charge and he may have made up his mind that he’d be better going with another option. If so that’s his right to make a judgment based on what he sees every day. But I’d be pleased if Barrie gets another chance to show what he can do with a bit of confidence in his game next season.”

McKay has endured a mixed season during Rangers’ return to the top flight as they finished third in the league table.

The tricky winger made 46 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and supplying 11 assists in return.

He quite often divides opinion among supporters as several of them feel that a player of his quality should be delivering a better end product.

McKay has racked up 140 appearances during his time with the Gers and Novo is keen for the Scotland international to stay for the foreseeable future.
