'Nervous wreck' - BBC pundit tears into Liverpool player for performance v Tottenham
By Danny Wright
Garth Crooks has torn into Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for his performance against Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday that saw his side suffer a dire 4-1 loss.
Mignolet, 29, made a series of mistakes as further questions were raised of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds defence as they were embarrassed by the Spurs attack who were in full flight after their impressive draw at Real Madrid last Tuesday.
BBC pundit Crooks has compared Mignolet’s performance to that of Hugo Lloris at the other end of the pitch, who made some brilliant saves to deny the Reds attack of getting themselves back into the game.
“What a contrast at the other end of the pitch,” said Crooks on the BBC Sport website.
“Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet looks like a nervous wreck in comparison to Lloris – hardly surprising given that he plays behind the Liverpool back four every week.

“Mignolet is not as bad as some people make out but he has been made to look much worse due to an abject defence. Every goalkeeper needs some protection. At Liverpool he gets none.”
Many questions have been raised about Liverpool’s defence since Klopp took charge of the club and it seems that little has been changed after a horror show on Sunday.
Only four other Premier League sides have conceded more than the Reds after the opening nine games of the season, with most of them being among sides that are struggling at the bottom.
Mignolet has made 10 appearances across all competitions this term, swapping places with Loris Karius for the Champions League matches.
The Belgian shot-stopper has only kept two clean sheets though and has been beaten 19 times in those matches.
