'I feared' - Jamie Murphy admits worrying over Rangers transfer

New Rangers winger Jamie Murphy has revealed he was worried his dream move to Rangers would collapse as it dragged on and delayed his departure for the club’s training camp in Florida.
Murphy arrived in Glasgow last Thursday for a medical but it took almost three days for the move to be confirmed as the Gers sealed a season-long loan deal for the 28-year-old.
The Gers have also agreed to sign Murphy permanently in the summer after the winger fell out of favour at Premier League new boys Brighton.
Murphy admitted Rangers boss Graeme Murty and some of the Gers’ backroom staff made sure he felt wanted as the move looked to be in danger of falling through.
“There was a little bit when I thought it might not go through,” Murphy said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“But I have to say Rangers were terrific with me throughout. The manager, Stewart Robertson, Mark Allen and Andy Scoulding were great in telling me they all wanted me at at the club.
“On Saturday morning the team left and I was still back at home trying to fix things. There was a moment when I feared it might not happen but we were still confident that it would.
“It’s a guaranteed permanent transfer so as far as I’m concerned – even though it’s a loan – I’m a Rangers player as far as I’m concerned.”
Murphy is likely to make his first appearance when the Gers face Atletico Mineiro on Friday morning in the Florida Cup.
The former Motherwell and Sheffield United winger was a key part of Brighton’s promotion-winning team last season and will be desperate to help his boyhood heroes pick up their first piece of major silverware since 2011.
The Gers return to domestic action when they face Highland League minnows Fraserburgh in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on January 21st.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club are working on beating Celtic to the signing of a 22-year-old goal machine ripping up the league.
