New report casts major doubt over swap move for prolific Rangers striker
Fenerbahce’s reported interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is “not known” by the player’s agent Jonne Lindblom, according to a new report.
The Daily Star claim the Gers star’s agent knows nothing about a reported swap deal involving the striker and Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel.
Reports in Turkey had claimed Fener want to lure the Colombian away from Ibrox and are willing to send Skrtel-plus-cash to the Gers in exchange.
Morelos ended the season as the Gers’ joint-top goalscorer on 18 goals last season after a blistering debut season in Scotland.
Football Insider verdict:
It looks as though this one is a case of throwing something to the wall and hoping it sticks The Turks have regularly been credited with an interest in Morelos but so far have yet to make any sort of meaningful for the striker. Any swap deal likely wouldn’t happen anyway with the Gers having already added two new central defenders to their squad this summer. With a shortage of strikers at Ibrox just now, Gers boss Steven Gerrard needs to bring one or two into the club before he can sell Morelos with only Eduardo Herrera available in the senior squad now. A move for Morelos could happen later in the summer but nothing is going to happen in the next few weeks at least and it’ll take a much more tempting offer to convince the Gers to sell. Skrtel’s wages would likely cause a problem for the Light Blues too with Bruno Alves still hoovering up a massive pay cheque every week so unless the Portuguese veteran moves on, Skrtel would simply be out of the Gers’ reach financially.
