Newcastle approached over deal to sign Nicolas Jackson as Chelsea star’s agent reaches out

Nicolas Jackson is making plans to leave Chelsea on a permanent deal this summer with Newcastle United now in a strong position to agree a deal.

The 24-year-old has endured a mixed loan spell at Bayern Munich this season and a return to England to try his luck again in the Premier League appears most likely.

Newcastle want to add at least one new striker to his squad this summer after what has been a disappointing season, and the Chelsea forward is high on their list.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Magpies’ attempts to sell Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade will provide them with the funds.

Despite some financial concerns lingering at St James’ Park and suggestions they may not be able to spend big, two major sales could facilitate a big window for Newcastle.

Why are Newcastle confident they can sign Nicolas Jackson?

Brown told Football Insider on 29 April that Newcastle are plotting a move for Jackson and hope to beat rivals to his signature when the transfer window opens.

Now, talks are believed to have been held with the striker’s agent, who has been in discussions with a number of clubs to offer his client’s services.

Jackson’s name is being circulated among a number of clubs across Europe in a bid to push for a move away from Chelsea, and Newcastle could take the chance.

“Jackson is somebody whose name gets mentioned every year,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Very often, these things come from a player’s agent putting his name around, because he knows he’s going back to Chelsea and wants to find a new club.

“He has been in discussions with a number of clubs, not just Newcastle, but I’m sure they have also been approached and offered his services.

“It’s up to them whether they want to go further with that, but they are long-term admirers of his.

“The question with Newcastle always comes down to whether they will be able to spend because of these financial restrictions, that’s something they have to balance.

“But we’ve spoken before and there’s a lot of talk about them selling players, like the two strikers [Wissa and Woletmade] for example.

“If they can do that, it should generate the funds they need to go and spend on Jackson, so it might be a deal they feel is worth doing.”

Which other clubs are interested in Jackson?

While he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter due to Harry Kane’s presence at the Allianz Arena, his record when called upon is still impressive.

Newcastle are far from the only club showing an interest in the Senegal international, with a number of clubs both in the Premier League and across Europe keeping tabs.

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier this year that Aston Villa are huge admirers of Jackson and could be set to rival Newcastle for his signature.

Unai Emery enjoys a strong relationship with the striker, having worked with him at Villarreal, and has sanctioned a new move to bring him to Villa Park.

Villa were among the clubs interested last summer before they lost out to Bayern Munich, but similar to Newcastle, shifting players this summer could allow them to move.
