Newcastle United will compete with any club in the world financially if Manchester City win their upcoming case against the Premier League.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Tynesiders could offer “huge” deals to potential signings and tie their star players down to new contracts.

Man City have pursued legal action against the Premier League regarding the associated party transaction (APT) rules currently in place, with the club claiming the regulations are “unlawful”.

If the rules weren’t in place, clubs could agree sponsorship deals as high as they wanted with no challenge, increasing the amount they could spend under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Reports have suggested the north-east giants are joined by fellow Premier League sides Everton and Chelsea in backing Man City as they take on the governing body.

The case is on track to be settled after a two-week private arbitration hearing starting on Monday (10 June).

Newcastle could bypass PSR rules if Man City win APT case

Newcastle are believed to be right on the limit of the permitted PSR losses, fuelling the speculation around whether they could lose their best players once the transfer window reopens.

There has been increased interest around the likes of Alexander Isak recently, with Football Insider revealing Arsenal have added the Swedish striker to a four-man shortlist of potential forward signings

If the APT rules were to be scrapped, it would put Newcastle in with a better chance of keeping hold of their star players and potentially allow them to close the gap on the sides at the top of the table.

It could now be a realistic possibility after Football Insider revealed on 9 June Man City expect to win their upcoming case against the Premier League.
