Newcastle could be the 'entertainers' again as inside source reveals new manager update - pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Newcastle United want to be the “entertainers” again as the board draw up plans to replace Steve Bruce as manager.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted he doesn’t see how a manager can come in and improve the situation at St James’ Park “given the circumstances”.
A Newcastle source told Football Insider today (6th October) the board are coming up with a shortlist of potential new managers to replace Bruce.
It is the first sign of discontent among the hierarchy on Tyneside after backing Bruce despite the club’s lowly league position.
The source insists the Tyneside club are ready to act if Bruce cannot muster a turnaround in fortunes after a lacklustre start this term.
The Magpies boss is determined to succeed at the club despite mounting fan pressure.

Whelan insisted there isn’t much more any potential Bruce replacement could do at Newcastle “given the circumstances”.
“It’s a really bad predicament that Steve Bruce is in,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“You’ve got a chairman who doesn’t want to pay you off, the fans are wanting you out – I don’t know how a manager can come in and improve given the circumstances.
“I feel for Steve Bruce. Last season they had loads of injuries, he managed to keep Newcastle up.
“This year he’s been given less money, more injuries again – I don’t know what everybody wants from him.
“He’s working tirelessly to galvanise a team who have started badly.
“Newcastle fans want more, which is understandable when you’ve watched ‘The Entertainers’. They want those days back again.
“With everything going on with the owner, the takeover and court cases – it’s just a no-win situation.”
Newcastle are without a win in the Premier League this season.
Bruce steered the strugglers to safety last term with a 12th-place finish.
