Newcastle could complete 'amazing' Lacazette signing in January after update - pundit

Alexandre Lacazette would be “an amazing signing” for Newcastle United in January, according to Kevin Phillips.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the Magpies could “reap the rewards” of the 30-year-old’s talent if they sign him and give him a run of games.

Lacazette‘s contract at Arsenal expires at the end of next June.

As quoted by the Express (19th October), the French striker revealed he is unhappy with his current role in Mikel Arteta’s side.

Across all competitions this season, Lacazette has started just twice.

According to the Daily Star, as reported by the Express (24th October), Newcastle are considering a move for the ex-Lyon forward in January.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the potential signing, Phillips said: “I have always been a big fan of Lacazette.

“I think he’s a great player. He would be an amazing signing for Newcastle.

“He needs to play week in, week out. I get the impression he feels he is not loved at Arsenal. Perhaps he feels he does not get the credit he deserves.

“In my opinion, he is a class player. If you played him week in, week out, you would reap the rewards.

“If I was a Newcastle fan and Lacazette came in, I’d be very excited. I know he is blessed with a lot of talent. He’d be a great signing in January.”
