Newcastle could 'definitely' re-sign Wijnaldum after major reveal - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed “there is a deal to be done” between Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain for Georginio Wijnaldum.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said a move for the 30-year-old is “definitely possible” now the Magpies can afford to bank roll it.

Wijnaldum joined PSG in July upon the expiration of his contract at Liverpool.

However, the centre-midfielder has struggled for game time since the arrival of Lionel Messi.

He has only started just one of their last seven games across all competitions.

In an interview with Dutch news outlet NOS (11th October), Wijnaldum revealed he is not happy with his situation in the French capital.

Campbell believes the door is now open for Newcastle to re-sign the Netherlands international.

“It’s definitely possible,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs. “Of course it is, 100 per cent.

“If he is not happy at PSG and he is not playing there’s a deal to be done. Newcastle have the funds to bank roll a deal for him.

“Let’s be honest, he’d be a serious upgrade on their current midfield. He knows the club, he knows the city. Why not? I think he’d be a great signing.”

Champions League winner Wijnaldum was a big hit on Tyneside in the 2015-16 campaign.

The Netherlands international contributed 11 goals and five assists in 38 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

In other news, Newcastle have been tipped to sign Tarkowski as the player’s ex-teammate revealed a “great offer” has been tabled.
