Newcastle could sign 28-year-old 'Wilson would love' after talks update - Campbell

Lucas Digne would be a “brilliant signing” for Newcastle United in January, according to Kevin Campbell.

The ex-Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old defender “is a striker’s dream” given his “perfect” crossing ability.

Digne has been frozen out of the Everton first team by Rafael Benitez this month.

The Toffees are expected to listen to offers for the France international in the new year after agreeing a deal for Dynamo Kyiv’s Vitaliy Mykolenko.

According to the Daily Mail (20 December), Newcastle United have discussed a potential move for Digne ahead of January.

When asked if he would be a welcome addition to the Magpies, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs:“Oh yeah, he is a striker’s dream.

“Wilson would love playing with him just like [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin has.

“Not only is Digne a France international defender, he is a top-class wide-man. He gives you something else going forward.

“He has a wand of a left foot. When he swings though crosses in they have the perfect spin on it so as a centre-forward, all you need to do is get your head on it. The ball will do the rest.

“I think Digne would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle and one that is more than likely possible.”

Digne has made 15 appearances across all competitions for Everton this season.

His contract at Goodison Park runs until the summer of 2025.
