Newcastle expected 4-2-3-1 v Wolves: Benitez to ring the changes, striker starts

By Amir Mir

Rafa Benitez could rotate his squad by making three changes to his Newcastle side as they welcome Wolves to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Right-back Vurnon Anita, along with attacking duo Aleksandar Mitrović and Ayoze Perez, could make way for DeAndre Yedlin, Mo Diame and Dwight Gayle at the weekend.

The Magpies thumped Queens Park Rangers 6-0 at Loftus Road on Tuesday evening taking Benitez’ side to 15 points after seven games, within one point of leaders Huddersfield.

Despite getting on the scoresheet during midweek Perez and Mitrović could miss out, as Benitez freshens up the Championship’s most formidable squad.

The Spaniard could make one change to his backline which has not conceded a Championship goal in four games, with Yedlin coming in for Anita.

Otherwise, captain Jamaal Lascelles will be hoping to continue his partnership alongside Ciaran Clark at the heart of the club’s defence.

Jonjo Shelvey, who has scored three long-range goals in his previous three games for the Magpies, is likely to continue in midfield alongside Issac Hayden, with Mo Diame further up the field.

The club’s top scorer Gayle will look to add to his four goal tally, as he pushes for a start after sitting out his sides previous victory.

Matt Ritchie and Johan Gouffran will be hoping to continue their good form out wide, as Benitez’ side search for their sixth straight victory at the weekend.

Newcastle take on Walter Zenga’s Wolves side who have not won in three games having conceded four at home to Championship new boys Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Zenga’s side travel to St James’ Park having conceded six goals in their last three games, as they lie in 16th place with nine points after seven games.
